Funding & Scholarships

Förderungen & Stipendien

International exchange is an essential component of good science. That is why scientists have participated in scholarship and funding programmes offered by relevant funding organizations for many years. Forschungszentrum Jülich views this mobility, whether it be from Jülich to elsewhere in the world or as a visiting scientist to Jülich, as a key component of internationalization and also an important element in establishing further cooperation.

The programmes that UE-B actively supports include options for researchers from many countries and regions, including the USA, Canada, China, Israel, and the Middle East. The different funding programmes target candidates at all career stages. The focus is not just on recruiting outstanding scientists from abroad. Several programmes offer university students and researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich the chance to gain experience overseas.

One example of this is the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which offers multiple programmes for scientists at different stages of their careers. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) also offers various programmes intended to promote cooperation in science between international and German researchers. While these programmes are aimed at researchers from all countries, there are also funding opportunities that focus on specific countries. These include the Office of the China Postdoc Council (HGF-OCPC) programme. Forschungszentrum Jülich participates in the calls for applications issued by this and other organizations for research funding, scholarships, and prizes.

Gabriele Weiland is the contact person for questions concerning scholarships and funding programmes. She is responsible for promoting the programmes and supports both candidates and their institutes in the application process, coordinating with the funding partner in the case of programmes specific to Jülich (Mitacs, OCPC) or with the funding organization.
