19 April 2024 – From 8 to 19 April 2024, Prof. Dr Steve Martin from the Iowa State University is visiting the battery site in Münster. As part of an international cooperation project, the scientists from the USA are exchanging ideas with their colleagues from Helmholtz Institute Münster (HI MS; IEK-12) of Forschungszentrum Jülich and the MEET Battery Research Center of the University of Münster on the topic of solid-state electrolytes in battery research.

In addition to the exchange of expertise, the project offers doctoral students the opportunity to spend three months at the other location. The exchange of materials, for example ionic conductive glasses, which are extracted at Iowa State University using a special process and therefore have a high specific conductivity and a very low thickness (less than 10 mm), also enriches the research work.

A lecture on the topic of solid-state electrolytes, joint discussion rounds with doctoral students and insights into the laboratories at the Münster battery site are planned for the visit. A visit to Hülshoff Castle in Havixbeck is also planned. "This is something of a tradition, as about 40 years ago the first joint meeting between Prof Dr Klaus Funke from the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the University of Münster and Prof Dr Martin took place there," explains Dr Peter Bieker, who has been coordinating the joint project for more than ten years.
