Third-party funded research and development projects

The IBG-2: Plant Sciences at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH is part of the Helmholtz Association (HGF). Within the HGF, research activities are organized in research areas and programs (program-oriented funding, POF). The programs have a duration of 5 years and are evaluated regularly.

The research activities are part of the HGF research area Key Technologies and deal therein with topics within the program Key Technologies for the Bioeconomy. The concept of a sustainable bioeconomy is becoming increasingly relevant with the elementary challenges of today's society. It strives to implement a sustainable, bio-based economy oriented to natural cycles. This includes the promise of a global food supply that is both healthy and based on high-quality products made from renewable resources (National Research Strategy BIOÖKONOMIE 2030; BMBF 2011, National Research Strategy BIOÖKONOMIE 2030). Within the National Research Strategy, IBG-2 focuses on the thematic area 'Sustainable crop production and optimization of biomass'.

In addition to POF-dependent research, IBG-2 successfully applies for third-party funding to conduct additional and complementary research activities with the aim to further develop its research and technology portfolio.
