Online Sequential Extraction (OSE) of Particulate Matter

Fine dust especially in particle size <2 µm is an important parameter in respect to air quality for human beings and the environment. Particulate aerosols are released by numerous natural and anthropogenic processes and sources resulting in complex mixtures. Metal species significantly contribute to aerosol composition. A recently developed technique for online sequential extraction of particulate matter hyphenated to ICP-MS enables fractionation and multi-element quantification for determination of the mobility of elemental species and to support identification of relevant dust sources.
