“We Must Start Making Progress towards Ensuring Net-Zero Emissions”
Jülich, 9 August 2021 – The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has today published the first part of its new Assessment Report, which documents the scientific results of climate research. It is clear that humans have caused global warming. Climate change affects the entire globe and is developing at a rapid and intensifying pace. Jülich’s atmospheric researcher Astrid Kiendler-Scharr is the lead author of the chapter on short-lived climate forcers in the IPCC’s report. In an interview, Kiendler-Scharr, who is also chairwoman of the Board of the German Climate Consortium (DKK), comments on progress being made in the field of state-of-the-art climate research with increasingly precise climate models, the role Jülich plays in atmospheric research, and the significance of short-lived climate forcers – particularly when it comes to curbing climate change.
